Can't find the convert to AAC option on the latest iTunes which I used
to use to create my own ringtones.

However I've just successfully made one using Audacity.

Up yours, Jobs.

GarageBand has an option that's along the lines of 'Share->Send Ringtone to
iTunes' which, provided your clip is 40seconds or less, will do just that.

It's still there in the latest that I have.

Select a track in your music and in the Advanced menu you have a 'Create
AAC Version'.

However this option changes based upon the import settings chosen in the
General tab of the setting. If your settings are for MP3 then you get a
'Create MP3 Version'

Still worked here the other day when I tried [1]. Could be the source
file you was looking at was already in AAC at the same settings as the
importing util?

[1] The convert tunes to 128kbps for the iphone breakes ringtones at a
higher quality, so had to rerip them.

Ah yes, I was right clicking the file, that's why I couldn't find it.

It's still easier to do it in Audacity. :)
