From: Mike Lane on 24 Dec 2009 04:38 I have an album of about 400 photos which I have extensively commented in iphoto '09. I am trying to transfer this album complete with comments to my neighbour's Mac (who is also running iPhoto '09). I started by putting the entire album onto a DVD using iPhoto's 'Burn' command, and then taking the disk to my neighbour's machine. The photos all display correctly with comments in iPhoto on his machine from the DVD. However when I try to import the photos from the DVD into his iPhoto library, the images are transferred correctly with all the metadata, but the comments are removed. I've tried different ways of importing the photos - dragging the images from the DVD into an empty album, selecting the photos and then creating a new album, etc. but always with the same result - no comments. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a 'feature' of iPhoto? -- Mike Lane UK North Yorkshire email: mike_lane at mac dot com

The latter, I think. iPhoto doesn't write comment metadata into the photo files themselves, but into one of iPhoto's supplementary library files. So to preserve comments, I think you might have to create a new iPhoto library, copy the photos you want into that, then burn the library folder onto the DVD outside of iPhoto itself. iPhoto Library Manager is a handy little app that can help with this sort of thing: <http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/> --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: news(a)netfront.net ---

I think it's a fault in iPhoto though. It surely can't be that difficult to include the comment data when importing an album into iPhoto. -- Mike Lane UK North Yorkshire email: mike_lane at mac dot com
