It's very surprising to me that they didn't. Well, there's rumour of 4.0.1 being soon, but probably mostly to fix the current marketing debacle of the signal dropping by holding the phone lefthanded - might be worth a wait before reverting to 3.1.3 (which is a bit twiddly). I think something may be up with push notifications as well. With them enabled for a number of apps, my battery life under OS 4 was dreadful. If I left in standby for 24 hours, I'd get a low battery warning. I disabled push notifications yesterday and have had good battery life since. I suspect there's just a problem with one app or so, so I may start enabling them one at a time. -- Chris

Maybe it'll need some change in the manufacturing process to fix the issue? Cheers ... Mark

I've heard that the software/hardware that switches to different something-or-others to get a better signal (new either in iOS4 or iPhone 4, I think the latter) is not functioning properly. If it was, it would compensate for the signal loss caused by bridging the antennae by switching to a something-or-other that got a better signal in that circumstance. The only feature that my wife would appreciate is the birthdays calendar. It would actually be really useful for her, but not if it slows down her 3G. I'll be paying attention to whether the performance gets fixed so I can upgrade her phone. -z- -- email: nettid1 at fastmail dot fm |
