From: zoara on 2 May 2010 08:01 Am I imagining this? I'm sure that I heard it was possible to get iTunes to re-encode music on the fly to a more compressed format when syncing with an iPod or iPhone, but now I've decided to use it I can't find any mention of it. -z-

Connect your iPhone so it shows in iTunes, then click on it. On the first tab (Summary) the third option at the bottom is 'Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC' Jim -- "Microsoft admitted its Vista operating system was a 'less good product' in what IT experts have described as the most ambitious understatement since the captain of the Titanic reported some slightly damp tablecloths." http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/

Connect your iPod/iPhone/iPad. Click on its icon in the left column of iTunes. Under the Summary tab, Options subheading: "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" -- David Empson dempson(a)actrix.gen.nz

I'd want to do that per-album, and I'd want to do it to a level I choose rather than 128k. Would then store things in lossless and compress to 320. Cheers, Ian

Not bothered about the per-album thing but I'd like to see a configurable bitrate. To be honest this is just a stopgap for me. I'm changing how I store/play my music after buying a Squeezebox. The old system was all of my music stored lossily on the laptop, and only checked music synced to the phone. The new way will be all my music stored losslessly on the server (which plays through the squeezebox to the home stereo) and only the stuff I want synced to the phone will be on the laptop, in a lossy format (saving space on both the phone and the laptop). Hopefully the "grab the lossless format off the server and make it lossy" process will be as automatic as possible... -z- -- email: nettid1 at fastmail dot fm |
