From: Melba's Jammin' on 19 Apr 2010 16:24 OS 10.6.3, MacBook Pro G5 Were there substantive changes from one to the next? I own the disk for iWork 2008 (not installed on the MacBook Pro, however). I downloaded the 30-day trial for iWork 2009 and the trial period is over. If there are no substantial changes in the 2009 version, I'll go back to iWork 2008. Do I need to uninstall or get rid of iWork 2009 or can I simply shove the iWork 2008 disk in the slot and do a regular install? I guess that's it in a nutshell. If I need to get rid of iWork 2008, what and where are the odd bits that should also go? TIA. And I apologize if this has been discussed ad nauseam here. -- Barb, Mother Superior, HOSSSPoJ http://web.me.com/barbschaller Updated 4-11-2010

I don't have any details but from my memory banks there are many improvements to both Pages and Number in the 2009 edition.

Depends on what you consider "substantial". Pages added full-screen mode (yawn). But it also added a dynamic outlining mode which, though I don't use it, seems to be a big hit with certain folks. Vastly improved mail-merge. Support for some third-party plug-ins (MathType and Endnote). Numbers added a bunch more math functions. If the ones in '08 were doing all you needed, no big deal. There were some interface improvements. Overall, I think, much improved. Keynote apparently added some new transitions. I don't use Keynote, so no big deal for me, either. All together, lots more templates have been added. This is probably the most comprehensive review of the update from '08 to '09: <http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2009/03/iwork-09-review.ars> Only you can tell if the improvements were worth it to you. I didn't hesitate to upgrade. It's cheap enough and I use Pages and Numbers daily. -- Plain Bread alone for e-mail, thanks. The rest gets trashed.
