Tideman pointed out that there is a section dealing with 1-D compression of the exact types of signals you seem to be interested in. I'll copy and paste the relevant section: "Biological/Medical Signal Compression !NEW One-dimensional lossless compression for biological signals, e.g., ECG, EEG, etc. Input must be raw data format consisting of series of signed short (2 bytes) integers. See included Readme.txt file. !NEW One-dimensional progressive lossy compression for biological signals, e.g., ECG, EEG, etc. Included are MATLAB m-files for plotting and display of waveforms. Input must be raw data format consisting of series of signed short (2 bytes) integers. Sample data files are enclosed. See included Readme.txt file." Have you attempted to use the software that these authors provide? Further, there are a number of entries on the file exchange for SPIHT code. I understand that the code on the file exchange is meant for 2-D signals, but if this is an area you have some interest in, then presumably it is worth investing some time to benefit from all the hard work people have graciously shared with the community and adapt the code for 1-D signals. Hope that helps, Wayne

You were pointed to an exact site and the exact routine at that site. You asked for additional help. The additional help that *I* have to offer is this: stop being lazy and at the very least demonstrate to us that you have put some sincere effort into working this out for yourself.
