From: Scott on 13 Jan 2010 11:03 currently have: 2003 ad domain 2000 server hosting 2003 exchange 2003 smtp server in DMZ forwarding mail to this 2003 exchange box. Have then installed 2008 server and planning to add exchange 2007 to this box. (the 2003 server in DMZ will continue to forward mail to the new exchange install) Have run the "MS exchange Best Practices Analyser" then "Exchange 2007 Readiness Check" which reports "Active Dir schema upgrade required" but i understand this is initialted by the exchange 2007 setup. Runnin the exchange 2007 setup i get the following report: EXCHANGE WARNINGS BEFORE INSTALL: -------------------------------------------------------------- Organization Prerequisites Completed Warning: The Active Directory schema will be upgraded if you continue. Verify that the organization is ready for Exchange 2007 by running the Exchange 2007 Readiness Check, which is part of the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer. (again i understand this is sorted by setup) -------------------------------------------------------------- Hub Transport Role Prerequisites Completed Warning: Setup cannot detect an SMTP or Send connector with an address space of '*'. Mail flow to the Internet may not work properly. (question 1. should i be worried about this message ? how do i deal with it , what does it mean ? ) -------------------------------------------------------------- Client Access Role Prerequisites Completed -------------------------------------------------------------- Mailbox Role Prerequisites Completed Warning: If Outlook Web Access is in use, you should replicate the free/busy folder on this server to every other free/busy server in the organization. This step should be performed once Setup completes. (question 2. should i be worried about this message ? , how do i deal with this ? i dont currently use OWA but im planning to install it.) -------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for any help pointers Scott
From: Scott on 14 Jan 2010 04:29 thanks for the reply. SMTP connector added, no additional public folders. From: Scott on 14 Jan 2010 05:33 adding the Active Directory Domain Services role to my w2k8 exchange server solved this. LDIFDE.exe appeared in the correct location. I did not run dcpromo.exe
From: Scott on 14 Jan 2010 06:23 Exchange 2007 install on Windows 2008 server mailbox role installation crashed out with Error: An error occured. The error code was 3221684229. The message was Access is denied. 2003 AD domain, currently running exchange 2003 on a windows 2000 box. Exchange setup was run with domain admin privleges. Have run the "MS exchange Best Practices Analyser" then "Exchange 2007 Readiness Check" with no errors. Manually ran /PrepareLegacyExchangePermission /PrepareSchema /PrepareAD with no errors. Exchange installation worked for "copy exchange files" , "management tools" , hub transport role" , "client access role" , failed on the mailbox role. Setup now shows a "Finish" option. 1) What else could i have done to prepare to avoid this error ? 2) How can i solve this error and re run the mailbox role ? Thank you Scott

thanks for the reply. Seems E2K7 is not supported on W2K8 R2 ! , awesome MS thanks for that ! http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/09/21/452567.aspx Attempted to uninstall exchange , remove the routing connectors using powershell , all work ok. Tried an uninstall of exchange again but as the MAILBOX ROLE bit failed then it seems i get "object reference not set" during an uninstall of this role. So removed the server from the domain and am going to install W2K8 with SP2 that is supported, but before this added it back to the domain again. Think i need to solve this uninstall error first. |
