The /etc/ethers basically defines the Mac address and hostname (from
memory), so when the client boots up, the host can identify it by the mac
address (what should be a truly unique identifyer) and assigned it a
hostname & ip address along with installation and install options etc.

hmm after following the recipe above and entering
boot net
I get a "cannot open neither boot_archive nor miniroot"

Ensure that /export/js is NFS shared properly - this *should* have
happened when you ran "add_install_client" for the first time. Also
make sure that the tftp service is running and that no security (/etc/
hosts.allow/deny, ipfilters) is blocking services
