Can someone suggest how to abort/suspend a running Matlab script by a keypress(for example - a for abort / s for suspend)?

to interrupt a script, ctrl C might be what you are looking for, but be aware that it does not always work (don't ask me why, but I experienced it and read about it in a matlab doc). I do not know of a key combinations to suspend a script and relaunch it.
