From: onlineviewer on 22 May 2006 10:05 Hello All, I downloaded and installed the ip filter pkg for solaris 8 from this page: http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/wsg/talks/ipfilter/, and i followed the info to get it started. Anyone get this package working or maybe a different ip filter package that will allow me to create some firewall rules on the server. Any suggesstions? When i start up the process i get the following message: ######################################### open device: No such file or directory open device: No such file or directory ioctl(SIOCIPFFL): Bad file number constructing minimal name resolution rules... open device: No such file or directory 1:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number open device: No such file or directory 1:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number open device: No such file or directory ioctl(SIOCIPFFL): Bad file number open device: No such file or directory 10:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number 11:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number 19:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number 20:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number 63:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number 64:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number 65:ioctl(add/insert rule): Bad file number open device: No such file or directory ioctl(SIOCSWAPA): Bad file number open device: No such file or directory SIOCFRSYN: Bad file number /dev/ipnat: open: No such file or directory /etc/init.d/ipfboot: load of /etc/opt/ipf/ipnat.conf failed

As of ipf 4, you also need the pfil module. Its available from the same place you fetched ipfilter. Alternatively, you can run the latest ipf 3.x. John groenveld(a)acm.org
