The Engineer will provide engineering, implementation and management of systems expertise within the UNIX IBM AIX environment that host applications and services used by our clients and staff. At a Senior level, this person is self-managing and has a deep knowledge of the UNIX AIX systems and Infrastructure and how it relates to the enterprise. The ideal candidate will be an AI Windows or UNIX engineer who is either desiring or already has had significant experience supporting systems that host production business applications. This person should understand how to AIX systems that scale are designed to meet a growing Enterprise adoption. Responsibilities: Perform standard AIX / UNIX Systems administration tasks such as: system building: From cd/dvd or tape (mksysb) or NIM. Must have expertise to setup a NIM server. Install and configure VIO servers Configure Integrated Virtual Ethernet (IVE) and Shared Ethernet Adapter (SEA) Configure virtual devices, such as MSPP, Virtual Ethernet (IVE/SEA), Shared Ethernet, and Virtual SCSI Disks; also configuring MPIO Configure MPIO on VIO servers Understand micro-partitioning and shared processor LPARs Perform system patching, upgrading and migration via alternate disk methods System troubleshooting for hardware and software to include networking using commands such as traceroutes and tcpdumps Requires HMC knowledge i.e. setup and configure LPAR's for use in dynamic environment, be able to move / reallocate resources Confident with firmware and software upgrading including Volume group creation and management, Logical volume creation and management, Userid creation and removal, Able to use TSM or Netback backup software for backup and recovery of system and data files Security management such as the use of sudo and sudoers file to restrict/control superuser priviledges, follow best practices such as: (umask, user and group permissions, .profile, hosts.allow, hosts.deny, use of ssh, no telnet) basic korn shell scripting and debugging Implement releases/enhancements/upgrades or new applications as documented by the release or project team (hence the requirement for Windows/UNIX skills) Recommend monitoring solutions for production applications. Interacts with peers UNIX Infrastructure Systems Engineers on all technical aspects of the UNIX environment often providing technical direction. Interacts with project managers, and the architects and operational staff to ensure the operations environment is supportable by the UNIX AIX Operations Support team. Research and identify application issues, and execute documented processes for quick restoration of service. Review and evaluate and develop documents (e.g., ORD, SLA, run book, etc.). Produce technical documentation, technical drawings, and other documentation as required. Thorough knowledge of the application from an operations perspective (no coding required) resulting in: Accurate evaluation of an application incident, and identification of a quick resolution/workaround to restore business functionality. Accurate evaluation of changes to understand impact to the business application and other applications that may be impacted. Identification of what point during an incident troubleshooting/resolution to escalate to level three support. Act as an operational SME for components (WAS, FileNet, Kofax, RightFax, Oracle, MS SQL Server, etc.). Act as an operational application SME to identify the failing or troubled component during an incident (i.e., database, hardware, application, queues, batch, network, etc,). Provide third level support for incident and problem management. Provide SME consulting services. 5-8 years of similar work experience Sr Systems Management on UNIX/Window(SOLARIS). AIX version 6.1(5.3 and 6.1) with VIO experience and LINUX is desireds.required. 5+ years of AIX system administration as a Senior level Install and configure LPARs, VIO servers, knowledge of IVE/SEA, configuring virtual disks Understanding of MPIO, MSPP, micro-partitioning, active memory sharing, and shared processor LPARs Knowledge of: vmstat, iostat, sar, topas, trace, curt, mpstat, lparstat, smtctl Install and configure NIM server Disaster Recovery experience necessary VCS configuration/management necessary Previous experience in a ticketing incident based environment Experience in setting up systems to do Capacity Planning is essential Operational knowledge of one or more of these products is required: Websphere, FileNet, Kofax, Rightfax, Oracle, MS SQL Server. Must be able to successfully interact with the business, vendor partners, release management, applications development, engineering teams, and others in a professional and personable manner. IS KNOWLEDGE SKILLS: UNIX AIX server/storage hardware and Operating Systems, working knowledge of supporting tools.
