From: wayne on 31 Dec 2009 14:36 May these logs be deleted or edited to save disk space, or are they critical to the Windows Update processes? -- wayne
From: Jerry on 31 Dec 2009 14:53 Those logs are related to the folders with the same name\number that are also listed under \Windows. They are used to uninstall that KB***** if, for some reason, you deem that necessary. If you installed these updates/security packs months\years ago and things are working just fine then, yes delete the folders and the same named\numbered log files. DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT delete the \$hf_mig$ folder under \Windows "wayne" <wayne(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8C47A963-318A-4302-9BDB-A181B7D23835(a)microsoft.com... > May these logs be deleted or edited to save disk space, or are they > critical > to the Windows Update processes? > -- > wayne
From: MowGreen on 31 Dec 2009 18:46 Wayne, The KBxxxxxx.logs have absolutely *nothing* to do with the uninstallation of an update. That information is stored in the $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$ subfolders. The size of all of the KBxxxxxx.logs is trivial compared to the potential size of the $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$ subfolders. On this 6 year old installation of XP the KBxxxxxx.logs total size is 2.8 MBs. If you need to reclaim disk space and all of the updates installed so far have not caused any issues, then see this to clean up the $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$ subfolders: I want to Save Space and delete unnecessary files after installing a Windows Update patch or Service Pack http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spack.htm MowGreen =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== banthecheck.com "Security updates should *never* have *non-security content* prechecked" Jerry wrote: > Those logs are related to the folders with the same name\number that are > also listed under \Windows.
