Hi,
I have compaq 14" v2000 lCompaq laptop and about a year ago the screen lost
it's normal view and instead displays content in mostly blues, oranges, and
pinks. If I partially close the lid the normal colors returns, but the case
is too far shut to use it that way. Case open about 10 degrees is ok, more
and no good.
Any ideas on what could cause this? All I can think of is the video cable
isn't plugged into the motherboard properly. I opened up the bezel once and
saw that the cable is plugged into the LCD screen. (the wifi antenna is
behind the screen, inside the bezels, too)
TIA for any ideas on how to proceed.
Al

Electrical shorts are a royal pain, and short (no pun intended) of
dismantling it yourself to locate either a broken wire or a loose
connection and checking the wires for continuity you'd probably be better
off getting it off to Compaq if it's still under warranty or paying a
professional to fix it.
Laptops are a different animal than a desktop. And until one has taken a
couple apart the project can be somewhat burdonsome. They too often have
unexposed parts inside that defy logical reassembly steps. If I did this on
my own I would set up a camcorder to record each thing I was disassembling.

Good luck, in any case.

thanks for the reply.
I bought a 3 year warranty when I bought the laptop, but
guess what? The screen went crazy 2 weeks after the warranty
expired. I guess I'll just get out the screwdrivers and see what
happens because I don't want to put any money into it, and I've
already bought a replacement laptop.

If it happened just two weeks after the warranty ended I would still get in
touch with the company. Many of them will still honor the warranty,
especially since you took out the extended warranty.
