From: Paul on 15 Feb 2010 19:02 Thanks for the all the information and suggestions, David. I downloaded Process Explorer and I've been experimenting with closing open file handles on back up files, and haven't experienced any corruption or other problems, so it seems to work just fine. I also discovered that I don't have Admin rights to the network drives, so I'll either have to get them, or do some detective work on the individual workstations. Again, thanks for the help. I should be able to track down and fix the problems with the ideas you've given me. Paul

Don't count on that always being the case, though. It's never good to force close a file handle as you can't tell from outside what state the file is in. > I also discovered that I > don't have Admin rights to the network drives, so I'll either have > to get them, or do some detective work on the individual > workstations. That's to be expected -- you wouldn't want it any other way. -- David W. Fenton http://www.dfenton.com/ usenet at dfenton dot com http://www.dfenton.com/DFA/ |
