You will be fine in a development environment. Zaur Bahramov wrote: Previous Posts In This Thread: On Tuesday, June 03, 2008 10:20 AM Zaur Bahramov wrote: Where are files stored? I'm a newbie in a Windows SharePoint Services. I'm building a document repository. I've dragged and dropped doguments through the Web interface to sharepoint portal and I can see those documents in the portal. But, where are those files I've uploaded are actually stored? How to setup folders where those files must actually be placed on a file system. On Tuesday, June 03, 2008 12:35 PM Mike Walsh wrote: They are stored in the database (as blobs/images)P.S. Thanks for response Mike! I have two more question in this reagrd: 1) Is it possible to organize storage of files on a file system rather than database? I use SQL Server express edition for development purposes, and if I add many pdfs/images I will exceed 4 gb limit of database size. 2) Is there a way in WSS to index contents of PDF files if they are editable? Files that are stored in the file system can be incorporated in SharePoint *pages* by being included in the sources of content for SharePoint indexing/search. But thus only via search. In other words you lose something ... WSS 3.0 (etc.) indexes PDF files provided you have installed an IFilter for PDF files. It's irrelevant whether those PDF files are editable or not. Indexing deals with the contents of the (stored) pdf file at the time the crawl was made (or re-made).
