From: gulabula on 20 Dec 2009 21:05 I am trying to set up a wireless network between a W7 64 bit and an older XP sp3 home edition. I'm using a dlink wireless router and the W7 desktop is connected by ethernet to the router and DSL modem. My HP PS C7250 printer is also directly connected to the W7. I'm trying to share files and printer with the XP desktop. I can connect to the internet just fine using a dlink usb adaptor. I've been working on it for awhile and have read other posts and tried several fixes. I've got them both on the same workgroup name, files shared, discovery on. I've gotten to where I can read the xp shared files on the w7 machine but cannot find the printer and files from the w7 from the xp. Thought it might be a firewall issue. I have Norton on both computers and network map on each computer shows the other computer so think I've got that correct. When i run start: search: \\computername or try to ping the W7 computer, it doesnt show up. The closest I can come is seeing the router in the Network places on the xp machine. Any suggestions most welcome. Thanks.
From: Anteaus on 23 Dec 2009 01:21 Try disabling SMB2 on the W7 computer. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2009/09/microsoft-posts-quick-fix-it-links-for-smb2-flaw-in-vista.ars That, and ditch Norton. Use just about any AV other than Norton or McAfee. "gulabula" wrote: > I am trying to set up a wireless network between a W7 64 bit and an older XP > sp3 home edition. From: gulabula on 23 Dec 2009 13:33 hmmmm, reading the bulletins it appears that it doesnt apply to w7 and was fixed before i even bought this computer. i could give it a try but not optimistic. Any suggestions most welcome. Thanks. I had the exact same symptoms with my new Dell laptop with Win7 even though my equipment is different from yours. I had to download new firmware and software to upgrade my Netgear router. Now Win7 sees the other computers and they see it. My Brother MFC printer also requires a new win7 driver before the new computer will see it. Stan Hilliard
From: gulabula on 13 Jan 2010 03:14 Thanks for the reply. Based on the forums at Dlink I appear to have the most recent firmware for my router and I've downloaded and installed new software and drivers for my printer.
