From: Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] on 19 Jul 2010 19:38 I would not let those two boxes see each other. You can use the same domain name and same server name, as the Security IDs will be different. Create the new SBS, test it off site, in the lab, whatever. When you know you have a fully functioning SBS, and you can import the mail, then go live, but going live in this case means removing (disjoining) the stations from the 'old" domain and using http://connect joining them to the new domain. You can use a USB drive or SkyDrive or anything you can reach, but keep the SBS old and SBS new off the same wires. Othewise they will start to hiccup. At that point, and when you are happy with the new server and domain, you can leave the old server until you are sure you have all the data and permissions, and then you can turn it into a RDP server or whatever you wish. -Larry -Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit. -Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > thanks for confirming what i've been trying to verify larry. as you > can imagine, searching for sbs2008 info bring up a whole bunch of site > dedicated to the migration wizard. so to confirm the main (critical) > points: > > 1. i'll have build up a new sbs 2008 server on a different domain. > ensure it's working as a server in and of itself. > > 2. create new user accounts, new exchange mailboxes, test merging a > few mailboxes from the exported pst files first. > > 3. copy all data across (either via robocopy or restored from backup). > setup shares and all. > > 4. move users to the new domain. > > once all is ok, i can pretty much shut down the old server? > is it also possible to migrate dns and dhcp settings or am i looking > and > building that up from scratch? > thanks so much for your help thus far > > http://forums.techarena.in > |
