problems with attaching files

I'm using Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 and XP SP2, and it seems to default to List view for me, even if the default view for the folder is set to something else.

Yes, it's counterintuitive, but this solution is in Ed Bott's book "Windows XP Inside and Out" and it works.
