From: vertigo on 30 Dec 2009 02:32 Hello I've installed linux (gentoo) on SunFire280R. It's hard drive is connected using FibreChannel and qla2xx drivers. The problem is that these drivers need a firmware. Default gentoo installation does not use initrd. After booting (silo) durring qla2xx loading i've received error that "Firmware images unavailable". But i have them in /lib/firmware! Where is the problem ? Do i need initrd ? (but i can not install initrd package because it's masked for sparc version - maybe inird is not supported on sparc platform ? but silo has initrd option.....) So i need to use initrd ? How to create it ? Has anybody installed Linux on sparc machine with qla2xx drivers disks ? Thanx

(I don't know a gentoo answer to your question.... sorry I couldn't help)

Do i need initrd ? (but i can not install initrd the problem is you're running the wrong operating system. You can get solaris CD/DVD images from sun.com. Unlike the hackjob world of linux, solaris runs pretty good on sun hardware.
