First off, video files are not embedded in 2007 but linked so check that the avi files are on the new computer. Other issues it could be:
codec problem - see if the avis run in the mci player (PowerPoint uses this to run videos, not Windows Media Player)
file path length problem - try moving ppt and avi to the same folder directly on your C drive then reinsert the avi

AVI files won't play in Powerpoint with VISTA operating system

Both powerpoint 2003 and powerpoint 2007 AVI files
won't play in windows vista unless extension is changed from AVI to MPG.
These same AVI files play in VISTA Windows Media Player. Powerpoint 2003 and
2007 AVI files play correctly in Windows XP. It looks to me as though the
problem lies with Powerpoint interaction with VISTA. I have emailed
Microsoft and it appears that they are unable or unwilling to resolve the
problem. Since I have too many presentations to correct by changing the file
extension, I decided to go back to Windows XP operating system where
Powerpoint 2007 works just fine. However, I will need to play these
presentations in VISTA as well. Is there any patch or fix available rather
than renaming the file extension to mpg and redoing all my presentations??
Thanks.
