From: Paul Fuchs on 6 Feb 2010 17:36 I have a slow and intermittant ISP. When my ISP goes down and I have an iTunes podcast downloading, after my ISP come up again and I hit the little circular restart icon on the right, the podcast will take up where it left off. But if I am downloading an mp3 in Safari, it will insist on starting at the beginning, even if I am 90% finished. Is there a work around for this? -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. George Orwell

If you're willing to pay $25, this sounds like something you may well want to try: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11684 "iGetter is a powerful, full featured download manager and accelerator. iGetter can greatly improve the speed of your downloads using segmented downloading. In addition it allows auto resume on broken downloads, queue filtering, site explorer, searching of mirrors, FileAvenue.net integration, history list, scheduling downloads for low traffic periods, auto redial on broken connection, auto hang-up, and shut down on completion." Of course, you have to be able to download this successfully in the first place. ;-) -- My latest dance performance <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_9pudbFisE> Mac and geek T-shirts & gifts <http://designsbymike.net/shop/mac.cgi> Prius shirts/bumper stickers <http://designsbymike.net/shop/prius.cgi>

You might want to try Firefox, as I am pretty sure there'd be an add-on to take care of that sort of thing. Since I went broadband, broken d/l's are of no consequence. Another possiblity is using Limewire, which does itself resume where left off if it can re-find the file. -- john mcwilliams

Resuming downloads requires that the web site (or whatever server) cooperate and understand the request to begin downloading in the middle of a file instead of at the start. If the server doesn't support that, then resuming won't work, regardless of what software you're using. With iTunes, Apple's servers understand iTunes' request and the download resumes. Your mp3 downloads may be coming from a site that just doesn't deal with that. -- Tom "Tom" Harrington Independent Mac OS X developer since 2002 http://www.atomicbird.com/
