I need to sort several Word doc files together in one large document that
exceeds the maximum file size in Word. Any ideas how I can do this simply
and retain the Word formatiing?

how large are the individual files (combined)?

There is only a limit for the raw text amount: 32 MByte. But images etc.
don't count towards that quota:

The formatting, well, that could be a problem -- unless all the
individual files use the same style definitions ...
