I have used MapWelt, moving map application on linux ubuntu and on a wince
pda.

http://home.versatel.nl/pwelten/mapweltmain.html

But: some problems with the wince: gps antenna gets locked by software,
while a linux computer can have more programs that reads from gpsd, so there
no problem...

Is somebody "in the mood" to compile the tcl/tk tools for the tomtom, as the
ttmaps application "unfortunately" is difficult to make the .ecw format.
http://jrepetto.free.fr/ttmaps/index.html

(I have topo maps of Belgium, France) . Uk, NZ, US, RU, DE,CH AT etc
available ...

It isn't really as simple as that. Either what you're asking for has
already been done, which should turn up if you search for it, or you're
asking for Tcl/Tk to be ported to a new platform, which can be a major
effort if the platform is a PDA. What is the "tomtom"? Is it a single
hardware device, or a range of hardware devices with varying
capabilities? What CPU does it use, what's the OS, how much RAM does it
have, (and how much storage space,) what are the screen's dimensions,
how does graphics work, is the screen a touch screen, does it have any
buttons, and so on, and so forth, etc, etc, etc, ...

Anyone who's ever ported Tcl/Tk to a PDA of any sort, feel free to
supply any points I've missed.
