I forgot to say that I recreated the profile several times and that the
roaming options are disabled.

The event viewer gives me the following errors :

event id : 1502
user : SALESCONSULT\selskens
computer : sc-tserver2003
description :
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this
error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If
this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by
another process.

use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.

Hi Laurent,

Thank you for your post.

If I understand correctly, a specific domain user will randomly receive
error message indicating that Windows cannot find/load the local profile
when it connects to the Terminal server. In addition, the events 1502, 1515
and 1511 are logged in the event viewer.

This issue can happen if the user's ProfileImagePath registry value is
duplicated with other users' ProfileImagePath. To resolve the issue, please
perform the following steps:

1. Run WHOAMI /USER to determine the users' correct SID.

2. Open Registry Editor and check the ProfileImagePath value under the
following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\<SID>.

Note down this ProfileImagePath value.

3. Check the other ProfileList\<SID> keys for matching ProfileImagePath
values and deleted those keys.

Note: Please make sure you have backed up the registry key before you
delete them.

4. Test and see if the problem is fixed.

In addition, I would like to check if you have ever manually moved the
users' profiles to another drive. If you have moved the Documents and
Settings folder, it will cause the issue.

Sincerely,
Joson Zhou

Hello Joson,

First, thank you for your help :-)
To be on the safe side, I deleted all the SID keys with the user's
ProfileImagePath in the registry and moved his profile to another location.
After that, I recreated the whole profile.
It seems to be working but it always seems to be working at the beginning.
only time will tell us :-)
For my information, may I delete safely all the SID keys of all the ex-users
there or is it dangerous ?

Thank you

Yours

Laurent

Hi Laurent,

Glad to hear that everything is working fine now.

Regarding your questions:

1. Please only delete the duplicated SID key (the value of ProfileImagePath
is same but the SID is different).
2. Please back up the registry key before you delete them.

You can export the whole profilelist
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList) to me for further confirm.

Sincerely,
Joson Zhou
