From: Madwen on 13 Apr 2010 23:04 Finally got around to installing Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and I'm wondering what the heck this webkitpluginhost thing is in Safari that constantly wants to call out. You've probably discussed this before but I did not find it. Everything else seems to be fine and peppy.

Everything else seems to be fine and peppy. http://www.google.com/search?q=webkitpluginhost In short, Safari/WebKit on Snow Leopard uses a separate process to host plugins. If a plugin crashes, Safari doesn't go down with it. Flash is the main guilty party. If you are seeing vast memory and/or CPU usage from webkitpluginhost, stop visiting web sites which use Flash, or install something like ClickToFlash so you have some say in the matter. In Leopard, any memory and CPU usage due to Flash is shown as part of the Safari process. -- David Empson dempson(a)actrix.gen.nz

Thanks. I did a google search previously but did not find out how to set Little Snitch (2.2.2) for this webkitpluginhost. I've been using ClickToFlash, which is great, for some time now so Flash has not been running. It seems there are few web sites not using Flash these days so I can't imagine how people avoid it if they aren't running ClickToFlash or something similar. Safari has crashed (spinning beach ball) several times for me since I installed Snow Leopard yesterday--- all seemingly in conjunction with those frequent webkitpluginhost messages. Everything else seems very stable and fast, fast, fast.
