From: oilman on 24 Mar 2010 15:39 I have a Samsung Omnia (the first one) and found out on other discussions sites that Windows will not have an update to 6.5 for my phone. I do like the phone, but like most people I have a contract I can't break, and find it a little disappointing that I have to both wait, then buy a new phone. Does anyone at Microsoft care, or plan on doing anything about this. Thanks

The end user is not microsoft's customer, and the windows mobile team at ms has repeatedly shown that they are not and will not be responsive to end user needs or inputs. Your only option is to target the vendor you purchased the unit from with your feelings. Beverly Howard
From: Sven on 24 Mar 2010 17:24 I am not a spokesperson for MS, but can answer your two questions. Yes, and no. Yes they care. The business model that was embarked on 10 years or more ago dictated that MS licensed the OS to manufacturers and it fell to them to deal with the consumer. That is still the way it is today. The agreements in place stipulate that you get your support from Samsung, or whatever carrier you are with. No, they aren't going to do anything about your particular issue, largely because they can't. They are however doing something about the underlying issue. The partnerships they are developing with Windows Phone 7 hardware OEMs and carriers, is being done with an understanding of the issues of the current system. This is going to be one of the benefits of the clean slate approach, MS is taking for their future in the mobile space. One; the hardware on your phone would not properly support 6.5. Two; there is no longer enough market left for your phone to invest programmer dollars. -Frank

As earlier posts have noted, you have no "official" way to upgrade. However, you may be able to find and use an unofficial upgrade. Some upgrades are better than the original OS. Some are far worse. And installing an unsupported upgrade (even a really good one) can disable your device if you aren't careful. With that in mind, you might check http://forum.xda-developers.com/filter.php?cat=Samsung On Wed, 24 Mar 2010 16:50:53 -0600, "Frankster" <frank(a)SPAM2TRASH.com> wrote: > >"oilman" <oilman(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >news:51CDB191-A0A7-4318-8EB0-7C53C74E95C0(a)microsoft.com... >>I have a Samsung Omnia (the first one) and found out on other discussions >> sites that Windows will not have an update to 6.5 for my phone.
