From: Magnus on 23 May 2010 10:18 I run w7 x86 on a separate bootcamp partition on my '10 Macbook Pro with R2010a. When I try to read from a .xls, I get the error: " Warning: Could not start Excel server for import, 'basic' mode will be used. Refer to HELP XLSREAD for more information. > In xlsread at 176 In Test at 7 Warning: Range cannot be used in 'basic' mode. The entire sheet will be loaded. > In xlsread at 184 In Test at 7 Warning: XLS File contains unrecognized string header - skipping remaining text - (1027:0x3a 65529). " where eg., vind_30=xlsread('Sodar Mars 2010 orginal.xls','R9:R4472'); is located in Test.m I have read that 'xlsread' has compatibility issues with Matlab on OS X (COM-problems?), but does anyone know why this problem occurs on my clean W7-installation on my stand alone bootcamp-partition? Any workarounds or hints? Thanks, Magnus Uppsala, Sweden

To cross-check: do you have Excel installed in your bootcamp partition? It is an optional (extra-cost) Microsoft product. (If I recall correctly, Excel is part of Microsoft Office in the USA, but not in Canada, so if you installed Microsoft Office in Sweden you should double-check to see whether Excel was included.)
