Hi,

I was sent today some files compressed with the extension zipx.

My normal unzipping utilities can't open these.

Can someone recommend a freeware program that successfully extracts
these files.

thanks

IIRC zipx files are a proprietary format that WinZip defaults to. Now
would be a perfect time to instruct the sender on the virtues of
freeware and/or open source software and ask them to recompress and
send them again. More info can be found here:
http://www.zipxfile.com/

Zipx uses new compression methods, but all the methods and zipx
specifications are open. Some of zipx compression methods were earlier
implemented in 7-zip and zipx is supported since 7-zip version 9.11. The
support is not complete yet, read the thread:

Unsupported methods in zipx now are jpeg & wavpack. That code is simple. So
I don't plan to add these codecs to 7-Zip in near future. Maybe later.

Thanks for the help.
I downloaded 7zip version 9.12 (I already had version 4.57 on my PC)
and sure enough it was able to properly decompress the file.

I appreciate your expertise.

And thank YOU... I just installed 4.65 on a new box last week because I
didn't spot the 9.12 beta download link. Upgrading now.
