I've just had that problem too. I had to restart my MacBook Pro too.
Is it possible that there is a virus on my mac? Or is this something
that just can happen?

It is possible TM is buggy and clunky and over the top software,
a bit like iphoto, itunes and imostthingsmac. Why have good old
Macs been so badly infected by these over cute proprietary
convolutions?
