Had a mobile contract with Orange for about 4 years. When I joined in
2006 I was offered "200 mins for life" on top if my normal bundle.

Anyway my contract was coming to an end so I had a look on line for an
upgrade phone and thought I'd downgrade to a tariff offering unlimited
free texts and free internet/email and just 100 minutes (Dolphin 20?).
Thought that with the extra 200 mins (for life) then 300 minutes would
more than cover my needs.

Rang up to check to be told that yes I could transfer to the cheaper
tariff but would lose my 200 mins for life. It would seem that Orange
are moving some goalposts here. Beware of 'for life' offers.

It's the same with other network operators. You can have those terms
for life, but you cannot get an upgrade. If you want to get an upgrade,
then you'll need to lose the bonus.

I've upgraded twice since 2006 and changed service plan and the 200 mins
has remained on my service plan.

Ask for your PAC to move your number to another network. They will
likely let you keep the 200mins or offer you a tariff offering much
better value compared to the ones listed on the website. Worth a try,
anyway!
