I have a 2008 license server in per device mode. It hands out
licenses to our W2K3 terminal servers without problem. However, our
W2K8 terminal servers do not pull licenses. The 2008 Licensing
Diagnostic wizard finds the licensing server OK but does not pull a
license and returns "not available" for Credentials. Under the
Actions column, when I manually provide a credentials login, the 2008
TS then authenticates and receives a per device license. This license
is only good for that open session. How can I get my workgroup W2K8
TS to pull a license automatically?

Is the license server name specified in the 'Specified license server list'
on the TS?

If the TS is in workgroup then auto-discovery will not work and you will
have to specify the license server yourself.
Please let me know if this doesn't solve your issue.

Thanks

Hi Silvia,

I currently have 6 W2008 TS. Three have the LS specified and three
are set to automatic discovery. All 6 find the LS without a problem.
All 6 do not pull a license unless I manually run the Licensing
Diagnostic wizard and then manually provide administrative credentials
to the LS. As soon as I provide the credentials, the TS receives a
license and the wizard reports, "Licensing Diagnosis did not identify
any problems to report." As mentioned above, the license I receive at
this point is only good for that one session.

For what it's worth, I have Windows Firewall disabled on all of the
above servers.

Thanks,
Larry

Do you run mstsc with the Elevated Prompt from the client?

If not then you will not be able to get the license.

Hope that helps!
Thanks

Mstsc with the Elevated Prompt? Running mstsc V6.1.7600 from an XP
client that has Administrator privlidges. Logging into TS with local
(TS) administrator account. Have been using this setup for all tests.
