From: David Rance on 13 Mar 2010 05:21 I'm using a 3 dongle to connect my laptop to the Internet. I run my own mail server at home but I'm connected to the Internet via Demon ADSL. A couple of days ago my Demon ADSL line was down for about eighteen hours. Not only could I not send from my laptop using 3 to my home SMTP server but neither could I send mail to Demon's server because that appeared to be down as well. So I tried sending mail using smtp-mbb.three.co.uk. While the 3 server accepted the mail via SMTP it was never delivered. This morning I tried sending to various addresses using the 3 server and none of them were delivered even though the 3 server accepted the mail for delivery with no errors. Does anyone have any idea why this should be? Is this a fault with 3? If the mail is accepted with no errors then surely it should be delivered or I should eventually receive a message of non-delivery. Follow-up: the messages have now arrived all within a few minutes of each other. The first took 22 hours to come, the last took four hours. Looks as though it does work but there's no such thing as first class post! :-( David -- David Rance writing from Caversham, Reading, UK http://rance.org.uk

Well, that's what I do - but the Demon ADSL line was down as so my server wasn't reachable. David -- David Rance writing from Caversham, Reading, UK http://rance.org.uk

Three block port 25, so you won't be able to do outbound SMTP. If you have a smarthost on another port then you can use that. > Does anyone have any idea why this should be? Is this a fault with 3? Email on Three via their gateway is chargeable - did you activate it? http://ask3.three.co.uk/mobiledocs/products/email/page6.html I'd have thought it would bounce messages rather than blackhole them if you hadn't, though.
