Sorry I don't have much to go on here but I have a customer who has chosen
to manage their SBS 2008 themselves. Yesterday or the day before they
called and told me that 3 computers are unable to connect to the server. I
can't find anything wrong with the server. I ran the BPA but that only
showed they need SP2 for Exchange and then a couple of informational things
not related.

I can login to all of the computers and they all show as though they are
part of the domain even receive addresses from the server but they lost
their ability to browse the server, no mapped drives and no files because
the system won't synchronize with the server to retrieve them.

Any ideas? Kind of tough because I don't know what they did leading up to
this.

Sorry I should have prefaced by saying they have been connected for over a
month but all of a sudden they were disconnected. Still joined just not
able to access server.

Hi Tim:

Here are a few ideas:

Time or time zone difference?

Failed switch? Can you ping back and forth?

DNS changed to that of the ISP or some other source?

Bindings on the nic?

AV scanning sysvol messing up AD?

Post up the *unedited* results of

ipconfig /all > c:\iptest.txt

from both the server and a station, and tell us which is which.

Errors in the event logs?

dcdiag /fix

netdiag /fix

That should get you/us started.

Thanks Larry I will look into these items. However, while waiting for a
response to my post I went on site and looked into this and found that 80%
of the workstations services flagged for "automatic" start have been
stopped. One workstation I was able to start all necessary services with
the exception of one. "Windows firewall/ICS" would not start until I
removed the McAfee Enterprise from the computer. Once I removed it from add
remove programs I was able to start that service thus getting the system
back online.

Strange thing is that the computer could ping the server and even bring up a
public shared folder but in the sbs console it showed offline. There was no
such luck for the second system. I could not get any of the services
started and I could not remove the McAfee software because the "installer"
service would not even start. I have that one back in my office for further
eval. Turned out there were only 2 not 3.

Could it be some additional issue arising from the recent McAfee debacle?
