From: JP on 27 May 2010 16:15 Dear All. Thank you for your sound advice. I have made up my mind that I shall move the SBS2003 to SMTP, which I know works well as I have few Clients on it. My only concern was, as there is no ICW on SBS2008 how would I tell the server that emails are delivered direct to it? On SBS2003 all I did was change the MX records at my ISP (as we have a static IP address) and in ICW said that emails where delivered direct it was so easy. But on SBS2008 I can not see any setup to inform the Server that emails are delivered direct. If one of you can point to a white a paper as to how SBS2008 SMTP is setup to receive emails it would be much appreciated. Once again thank for taking the time and giving me sound advice. Please keep up the good work. Without you guys we would be lost. From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 29 May 2010 00:53 That's great news it's called "Set up your internet address" link In the Windows SBS Console. Make sure your MX Records are changed at MXToolBox.com to point to your External IP You can even test it there. From: Cliff Galiher - MVP on 29 May 2010 01:05 As others have stated, Pop3 really is not an appropriate solution. But one thing I specifically wanted to mention is that you said you want to move to SMTP later to keep the migration simple. I believe moving to SMTP is actually the simpler solution when compared to installing a 3rd party pop3 connector, adding all of the accounts it needs to check, and managing multiple passwords for each account (the account domain password + the password for the pop3 connector.) Moving to SMTP is actually a very simple process and will, in my opinion, actually make the migration (and troubleshooting any post-migration issues) easier. Consider it. -- Cliff Galiher Microsoft has opened the Small Business Server forum on Technet!
