From: JP on 25 May 2010 05:58 Hello, I am migrating from SBS2003 to SBS2008 Std, and would like to know if anyone knows of a third party POP3 Connector which will work on SBS2008 (as pop3 on SBS2008 will not do Global Mail). On SBS2003 we use EFS (http://www.chimera.co.nz), but that EFS does not work on SBS2008. I really do not want to move on to SMTP mail at this stage during the migration. Once the server is install and working with all the users up and away then I might move the Client to SMTP mail. This is my first migration so want to keep it as simple as possible. Many thanks for your help. JP
From: Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] on 25 May 2010 06:57 Hi JP: I don't use POP3 for SBS servers, as SMTP is much better. If you can't find one you like, then I suggest you delay the migration and get SMTP working on the SBS 2003. No need to complicate things by trying to do both at once. - Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit - Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > Hello, > > I am migrating from SBS2003 to SBS2008 Std, and would like to know if > anyone knows of a third party POP3 Connector which will work on > SBS2008 (as pop3 on SBS2008 will not do Global Mail). From: Jim Behning SBS MVP on 25 May 2010 09:00 Personally I am with Larry. Get SMTP working first. If you insist on not getting it working first in days of old I used to buy PopBeamer. Everyone is doing SMTP now so I have not purchased the product in years but it worked great back in the day.Seems like a needless expense. http://www.dataenter.com/products/popbeamer.htm On Tue, 25 May 2010 10:57:49 +0000 (UTC), Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] <lstruckmeyer(a)mis-wizards.com> wrote: >Hi JP: > >I don't use POP3 for SBS servers, as SMTP is much better. > >If you can't find one you like, then I suggest you delay the migration and >get SMTP working on the SBS 2003. From: Thomas Nielsen on 25 May 2010 09:57 I agree on the SMTP solution is so much better. But if you want to, use POPCON from christensen software. It will work on the SBS2008 and you can use it it trialmode for 30days (time enough to change to the "real" deal) Best regards Thomas Nielsen "Jim Behning SBS MVP" <jimbehning(a)doesthisblockpork.mindspring.com> wrote in message news:hcinv5ljj8ii7t4uuulo05k1grmqas12f7(a)4ax.com... > Personally I am with Larry. From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 25 May 2010 15:46 JP Realize of course you are making more head aches for yourself by adding a POP3 connector. I have never had to use the POP3 Connector in "ANY" SBS migration At most I make sure backup MX Records (Which I recommend anyway.) Adding something in a migration may cause you more issues. The Amount of time you spend on configuration of the POP3 Connector is longer than the time just to move everyone over. (And since I work on a Per Hour Basis, Me charging more for wasted time is frowned upon.) There is the SBS2008 POP3 connector http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc527480(WS.10).aspx If you need to Configure your mail server to answer for email for more than one domain. http://www.petri.co.il/change_primary_email_address_in_exchange_2007.htm IMO POP3 should be considered DEAD and not ever used again. Be sure to configure all PC's Laptops with the http://connect when adding them to the domain this will configure RPC over HTTPS (Outlook Anywhere) on the Laptops And your users will be "VERY" happy!
