I'm running a virtual Server 2K8 R2 file server. 2K8 R@ Hyper V server is the
host. All the user's "my docs" folders are redirected using GPO to a share on
this file server. For the past 3 days, once a day at different times each
day, windows explorer will freeze. This affects all 20 users. The users are
all running XP. They can ping the file server by IP and servername, but they
can no longer access the shares. Explorer seems to be timing out while it
trys to access the shares or open windows explorer. The only fix is to reboot
the server. Disabling/enabling the NIC does nothing. There is nothing in the
event logs and the network connection is not being saturated. CPU and memory
usage are are normal.

But I can access the shares from any other server at this location or from
one of my other offices, while all the user machines cannot.

Everything had been working fine until this week and nothing has changed to
my knowledge.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Follow up for anyone interested: I found a few accounts of Symantec AV
causing shares to stop responding so I replaced it with another AV product
and we made it through today with no issues.
