From: Wish I was diving on 29 Apr 2010 02:50 I recently upgraded to Windows 7 but I am still running Office XP Pro 2003. I get messages that Microsoft Agent 2.0 is no longer included in W7. I did find a hotfix somewhere but it read to me like 'rather not install' together with a very confusing hint that I'd better use Windows update. That I did but Windows update does not - at least not automatically - provide a solution for this. What would be the right path for me? PS: the upgrade was a clean install so whatever was there before is gone now.

From: Jerry on 29 Apr 2010 17:06 A copy of a message I had received asking a similar question: Greetings, Due to customer feedback, Microsoft has decided to provide an installation package of the Microsoft Agent core components for use on Windows 7 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969168. This package includes the required components to enable applications to work with MS Agent. In addition it contains the character "Merlin" which was also shipped in Windows Vista. Please read the EULA with the package for more details for downloading, installing, and servicing for end users. Microsoft Agent is still being deprecated and will not be included in future versions of the operating system. This package is intended for use only on Windows 7 and is not supported on any previous or future operating systems. No new features have been added to this release, but the product has been localized for languages supported on the Windows Vista operating system. This package may not be redistributed. In addition, development of new Microsoft Agent applications is not supported on the Windows 7 platform. Thanks to the many folks who provided feedback to assist us in our decision. If you have any concerns please let us know. For more information, please see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969168. From: Jerry on 30 Apr 2010 15:36 Also, I thought I'd mention that Agent is a Windows feature - not an Office feature.
