As a general rule of thumb, there are a great many displays out there which are about a third the price of Apple's LED display, but the ones which are actually comparable tend to be more like two thirds the price, or even a bit more than that. But these things are all relative, and a 200 quid monitor may well be adequate for most people. I'm still using a Samsung 20" display from 2006 (I think) which was 200 quid even back then, and is probably dreadful by today's standards, but it's fine for me. b. -- <bas(a)bas.me.uk> <URL:http://bas.me.uk/> `...the Plain English Campaign [...] says some officials only use Latin to make themselves feel important. It's about to get swapped for a slightly better dell 2009WFP 20" still with a TN panel, but this is only because I know someone whos decided they want something much better [1] and has just ordered a 400 Dell U2410. [1] I'm not exactly sure why as they don't actually do any colour work, even tried to talk them out of it as unrequired, but they had an X-black 17" before and this isn't as nice, so they've got a bee in their bonnet about something thats as good... -- Jon B Above email address IS valid. <http://www.bramley-computers.co.uk/> Apple Laptop Repairs.

See my thread below re text friendly monitors - I think the Apple display is probably worth it - if it's like the iMac I looked at on Saturday then the viewing experience is certainly much better than the HP I bought. This may be partly down to the glossy finish and screen covering. I can get the 24 inch for £514. This is a lot more than the HP (£370 and which also has a lot of inputs and a good adjustable stand) but for work I guess this is the one component that should be the best. E. |
