Haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but a few rumours are going round
that a 1080P local storage-free iPhoneOS-based AppleTV is about to
appear for $99.

Hmm.

No local storage? Well, I'd prefer some I must admit but it's not the
end of the world. Would mean that operation cheap server PC running
iTunes would suddenly be go, but it's still interesting to me. Really
hope they also put on net radio capabilities.

Cheers,
Ian

I find my XBox360 streams over 802.11g without recourse to local storage
and seems to do so just fine.

I'd be more concerned about having iTunes as a movie server - yet
another task it's being shoehorned into.

Agreed. It's a bit of a restriction too - means server must be Mac or
Windows. I already have the Mac Mini to use, but was hoping to reuse
that to replace an old G3 iMac my kids are using.

Was wondering about cheap old PC, lots of storage and then
VirtualBox/OS X client. Otherwise would need a spare Windows license
that I don't have. Can't see me buying a Mac just to act as a glorified
headless server - too pricey for that role.
