From: Gary D on 9 Dec 2009 04:36 I have a 20 day task called shutter, steel and concrete on a programme. I am assigning labour resource across the whole activity, however every 4th day i will be concreting, therefore i want to assign a concrete pump every 4th day on this single activity. I do not want to create 5 seperate concreting tasks. Is this possible on Microsoft Project? - GDD
From: Trevor Rabey on 9 Dec 2009 04:58 I recognise this typical construction project scenario. I will say what has already been said in several other similar recent posts on this subject. Why the reluctance to simply sub-divide or decompose the tasks into more tasks, with simple FS0 predecessor links, when this is the obvious solution? More tasks = more simple = more control. Problem solved, plan finished. Readable, trackable, updatable, controllable. Your 20 day task, which merges three obviously separate tasks, is just too long and not well enough defined. Below this level of sub-division, you have no visibility and no control. I can advise various ways to make your bars look like they are in the right place, such as FS+4 and FS+8 predecessor links, but I cannot advise a better method than just making more tasks. -- Trevor Rabey 0407213955 61 8 92727485 PERFECT PROJECT PLANNING www.perfectproject.com.au "Gary D" <GaryD(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0F77C7B9-ECB3-4232-AB36-DFA85CCDB106(a)microsoft.com... >I have a 20 day task called shutter, steel and concrete on a programme. From: Jim Aksel on 9 Dec 2009 09:14 Assign "Concrete Pump" to the task. Then View/Task Usage on the menu. You can adjust the assignment units from the right side of the task Usage view. Good scheduling practices would break this task down into smaller pieces with many subtasks. -- If this post was helpful, please consider rating it.
