I reached Acting Petty Officer and was then commissioned. After Officer training at BRNC Dartmouth, I went to RAF Linton-on Ouse and flew Jet Provosts. Was awarded my wings after a year. Then on to advanced flying training on both twin seat and single seat Hawker Hunters. Succeeded in all. Sent for operational training on the MkII Buccaneer. A few trips, but too much for me to handle. Failed. Flying badge removed. :( Retrained as an ATCO. I was very good at that! Took advantage of reduction in level of spending on our armed services and volunteered for early retirement. Accepted. :) From thereon I was a civilian. HTH -- Dave - my story has *never* varied.
