Keep in mind that his would require fibre optic bandwidth, to the home,
but iit is to the poles in most places already since cable companies
have been stringing fibre optic cable for the home for a long time now
in anticipation of the future needs.

And since they want to never lose their market share which they have
now, they did that to discourage other companies from getting in, and to
justify their monopoly in some cities.
They have made the investment, therefore they should be allowed the
monopoly, and therefore the price of service should be whatever.

But keep in mind the market will not bare much of an increase before the
telephone companies merely come in and compete with them.

Youtube can stream HD film. Its not big enough to fill your 3D TV area
that surrounds you in your spaceship in your basement yet.

So flying there takes a few minutes and you may have some VRML to watch
that tells you about the world while you appear to be traveling there
some how, in order to download the experience in Shockwave format or
whatever it ends up being. Youtube uses the flash player.

So a kind of Veldt experience is already available for you with 3 TV
sets and a bit of furniture to match and some artistic work of some
kind. Surround film will be just around the corner. Used for
documentaries, and learning and science programs and deep sea underwater
adventures etc.

The Omnimax Zeiss cameras have made a lot of fims, so maybe those films
can be adapted to Blue Ray.
