Hi

sbs 2003 standard. Our emails are being bounced with the message that our Ip
is blocked using cbl.abuseat.org. What can I do to remove the reason for the
block to avoid this in future?

Many Thanks

Regards

Does your firewall alow other computers on your LAN than the server to use
port 25 TCP (SMTP) outgoing?
If yes, that is most likely your problem

Hi John:

New mail server or new problem on existing mail server? New IP or new problem
on existing IP? There are many possible reasons, including the possibility
that the ip was on the isps list of dynamic ips sometime in the past and
is drawn from a dynamic pool.

As Thomas points out, you could also have a rouge smtp server on your network.
Best way to test for that is to watch the traffic or to set the firewall,
edge device, to not allow any outgoing traffic on port 25 except from the
ip of the SBS.

Without knowing the domain name or ip that is being blocked, there is not
a lot more we can do.

www.mxtoolbox.com is where I start. As others have mentioned, I block
all workstations from sending email directly to the internet either in
my Sonicwalls or in ISA. If you have a two nic SBS that is acting as
the internet gateway for workstations you can run Wireshark to see
what workstation is infected.Unfortunately unless you are running ISA
or have a quality internet router, you cannot block infected
workstation from causing you to get on spam blacklists.
