From: D.M. Procida on 23 Jan 2010 10:29 I've asked this before, but it was some years ago: what is the best software with which to catalogue a library of books? I wasted a lot of time once with Delicious Library, and I'm not inclined to spend more money finding out whether version 2 is any better. I have a barcode scanner with Bluetooth interface, so I'd like to be able to make use of that if possible. If it can manage my record collection too, that would be handy. Daniele

(I think <http://www.goodreads.com/> is another similar thing). But, I'm not sure how I feel about making that information public. I hasten to add, it's not because I only read Harry Potter and Jeffrey Archer stories, but just because it seems like too much information. Also, I'd prefer to have that information safely here, not at the mercy of someone's business model or disgruntled sysadmin. Daniele

And anyway, that pair's nothing to be ashamed of: I've got more than one shelf filled with Michael Moorcock books. >but just because it seems like too much information. > > Also, I'd prefer to have that information safely here, not at the mercy > of someone's business model or disgruntled sysadmin. If you find what you're after, do please let ucsm know about it. I could do with a good book cataloguer and if it can work with barcode scanner - ooh! Yes! - at least for those books that have barcodes[1]. Rowland. [1] Which are a recent invention, and so not present on (say) M.L. Scroggie's Radio Laboratory Handbook. Which is all about valves. -- Remove the animal for email address: rowland.mcdonnell(a)dog.physics.org Sorry - the spam got to me http://www.mag-uk.org http://www.bmf.co.uk UK biker? I use Bookpedia which stores the data on my Mac, and I bought a barcode scanner (a little mouse shaped thingy!) which I used to scan in lots of my recent books with barcodes. Only got so far through the process, but it worked well, and looked up full book details in library catalogues, Amazon etc., so saved me rather a lot of typing. Viv |
