Next: HW for SBS 2008 - advice?
From: tomsimon on 23 Nov 2009 13:35 I have the same scenario outlined at http://blogs.technet.com/asksbs/archive/2009/01/16/sbs-2008-ctiw-fails-to-complete-successfully.aspx I am doing a migration from SBS 2003 to SBS 2008, and I am trying to get past an error in the Connect to the Internet wizard. The wizard does not detect my router (which, I understand from one article I read is because my network is at 10.x.x.x, not 192.168.x.x). Fine, so I manually enter the IP address and press Next. Eventually, the wizard dies with the following error, "Internet connection is incomplete - Windows SBS has encountered an unknown error. For more information, contact Microsoft Product Support." If I do not get past this error the steps that follow also fail as this is an important prerequisite to many steps including migrating Exchange Server mailboxes. I could easily install the proper gateway and the like, but many other automated tasks depend on having successfully run this wizard. The web page noted above talks about the anti-virus software blocking the completion, but removing my AV solution did not fix the problem. The CTIW.log is identical except for the IP address information. The router is definitely working and at the IP address I specified. Does anybody have something else I can look at? This dumb error is holding up the whole migration. Thanks. -- tomsimon ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tomsimon's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/157466.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/small-business-server/1274341.htm http://forums.techarena.in
From: Bill Sanderson on 23 Nov 2009 16:59 I've migrated an SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 with the router at 10.25.25.1, so that shouldn't be a block. I don't know whether the router must respond to UPNP or not--you might turn that on in the router, if available, just in case. From: tomsimon on 23 Nov 2009 20:28 Turning on uPNP didn't help. I guess I will need to bypass the wizard and do the rest manually. -- tomsimon ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tomsimon's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/157466.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/small-business-server/1274341.htm http://forums.techarena.in
From: "Robbin Meng [MSFT]" on 24 Nov 2009 05:26 Hello, Thanks for your post and Bill's input. Have you checked if IPv6 is disabled? If so, please start it. Then enable on the NIC and set the following registry key: HKLM\system\ccs\services\Tcpip6\Parameters\disabledComponents=0 Then reboot the server to see if the issue persists. You may refer to below article for detailed steps: Issues After Disabling IPv6 on Your NIC on SBS 2008 http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2008/10/24/issues-after-disabling-ipv6-on-your-nic-on-sbs-2008.aspx More information: Connect to the Internet Wizard Fails on SBS 2008 while Enumerating Server Roles http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961445/en-us BTW, please temporarily disable all 3rd party firewalls and anti-virus programs(possible AVG software) for test purpose as well. Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know. Robbin: IPv6 was not disabled. In addition, there are no firewalls installed and AV was removed when this first occurred. I have subsequently tried many times to no avail. At this point I have regrettably bypassed the wizards and successfully continued migration. Thanks for the help.
