Well, I got the reply. Damned interesting too. Here it is:

Man, you could fool me. I've never seen the MS installer do that kind of
thing with any other program.

So then I guess I wonder, if Calibre doesn't use the registry, does that
mean there's a portable version of the program? That would be very cool.
