I have a Mac Book, OS 10.5, and have connected it to an Apple 23 inch display.

The built in camera on the MacBook works with skype, but the camera on
the display does not.

All other functions are OK

Can anyone tell me how to turn off the camera on the MacBook, and
start the camera on the Apple display.

eg When I use skype, people see me from the side (from the MacBook). It
would be much beter if I could send the image face on. I tried photo
booth to test the camera on the display. And that works. But other
apps do not.

Many thanks

If you have multiple cameras, each application which supports a camera
should provide some way to select which one you want to use.

I haven't tried Skype with two cameras connected, but it has a setting
to select the camera in Skype > Preferences > Video.
