Yes, this is probably overly paranoid, and no, I'm not advocating it. Various entities have done it, back about 2+ years ago. Yea, there was a bit of calling home, but it was for confirmation of installation and update checks, but not for what "Big Brother advocates" preach - that Google was "spying" on folks.
