OK...

Senior moment. Wheel & you are right in that I can use Canonical's
product for a "private cloud." Canonical's UEC isn't in the running
because it's a heck of a lot more than we need. Not to mention more
than I want to admin <cough>.

Tahoe-LAFs distributed storage sits on top of w/e OS is already deployed
and, so far, looks like it'll be more manageable.
