Hey, this reminds me of a true anecdote! I've told it before, but what the hell. A small crowd of Mathies and Fine Arties were gathered around the fireplace with drinks, and one of the gushier artists produced the standard "apparent-self-deprecatory" but really self-serving line of "Oh I was always hopeless at math." "In geometry I never even learned the difference between the radius and the diameter!" Quick as a flash, my jokey colleague responded... "It's the radius!" It was amusingly ironic to see all the mathies chuckling, and the arties looking vaguely puzled... ______ Possibily an example of a genuinely MATH joke, rather than a joke set in a mathy background. Since it took a second reading to get it, does that mean I could take an art class?

Yes, so long as it's a proper class. -- Gerry Myerson (gerry(a)maths.mq.edi.ai) (i -> u for email)
